Earlier this week (Tuesday, January 21), the common council approved a resolution relating to the widening of Bronzeville Cultural and entertainment district of the 6th alderman arrondissement.

Written by the alderman Milele A. CoggsThe resolution (Council file n ° 241216) enlarges the cultural and entertainment district of Bronzeville from West Walnut Street to West Burleigh Street and North Dr. Martin Luther King Drive in North 7th Street.

The purpose of this resolution is to help redefine the area with regard to brand image, marketing and identification, while redevelopment, promotion and marketing activities have extended beyond the limits original identified in city legislation.

The new limits will include areas commonly considered to be included in the district and the districts of the historic Bronzeville area. These include districts of Harambée,, Drisse park And Brewers hillwhich will continue to benefit from the positive impact of continuous development in the district.

The alderman Coggs, founder of Bronzeville Week, said: “What we discovered thanks to our work, development, marketing and promotion of the region is that the current legislative limits do not correspond to The way we operate or how the public sees Bronzeville. »»

“Bronzeville is a distinct cultural and entertainment district, it is therefore important that we update the limits of the neighborhood to guarantee that continuous redevelopment can take place in an organic way inside these limits,” she declared.

The resolution was co -worked by the alderman José G. Pérezalderman Robert Baumanalderman Jo Casta Zarmarripaand alderman Diandre Jackson.
