The member of the Tim Walberg Congress said that consumers should have the choice between a vehicle powered by electricity or petrol.
He has reintroduced his law on cars, which would prevent the EPA from limiting the availability of any vehicle depending on the way it is fed
“People want the choice,” said Walberg. “And the choice is American.”
Walberg said gas vehicles still have a future.
He said that his new choice in the Automobile retail law would equalize the rules of the game for new electric vehicles and traditional cars.
The bill prevents using any authority under the Clean Air Act to create specific technology regulations, or lower the availability of cars on the market depending on how they are powered.
It is in response to the Own Biden era standards and was initially adopted by the house in 2023.
However, the Senate controlled by the Democrats has not resumed.
Walberg said he wanted to make sure the government did not unfairly influence the market.
“This should belong to the consumer, car manufacturers, engineers, designers,” he said.
Walberg said electric vehicles are still too expensive for most consumers, adding that the average owner’s income exceeds $ 100,000.
He also believes that the United States should increase its concentration on energy independence, rather than relying on EV materials from other countries.
“Most of the elements that enter the majority battery come from China,” he said.
Some of those who have already bought an electric vehicle do not agree with the Republicans of the Congress.
Angela Babian bought a Tesla to save on gas money and for the sake of the environment.
She said that the government is shooting in a different direction with electric vehicles in a few months, and she thinks that it is the wrong direction.
“I think electric vehicles are necessary to help reduce our carbon footprint,” she said.
Walberg said he thought that tax credits up to $ 7,500 for new electric vehicles could soon be deleted.
Legislation for this purpose was introduced to Congress last month.
