This story is one in a series by highlighting nine exceptional teachers who have been recognized with the prices of the exceptional faculty of 2024-2025, selected by the University recognition and support committee.

These prices – are the highest honors of the chico state – of the excellence of membership teachers in the categories of exceptional teachers, teachers, university advisor, head of the faculty, research mentor, faculty service, speaker, lecturer by bringing the profession in class and early career.

Exceptional teachers’ price, Timothy Heinze

Known for its contagious energy, its authentic style of teaching and its unshakable commitment to the success of students, Tim Heinze (Business Administration, ’94) has become a cornerstone of excellence in class and beyond in Chico State. Professor of marketing at the Collège des Affaires, Heinze spent nearly two decades cultivating knowledge, confidence and the community among its students.

Described by colleagues and students as a transformational, Heinze’s teaching goes far beyond the manual. His lessons mix theory with an application of the real world, and his class is a place where stories, humor and high expectations meet to create deeply engaging learning experiences.

“What stands out the most evident when TIM’s observation teaches a full room of students is its ability to engage with students and connect them in a manner that keeps them captivated during a whole class period,” said Matt Meter, marketing teacher. “His interpersonal nature and sincere ties with all her students make them want to never miss one of his lessons.”

Beyond the classroom, Heinze is just as invested. He played a central role in the support of students thanks to regional and national sales competitions, internships and career investments, helping them translate knowledge in real success. His open door policy, his empathy and his honest comments have made him a guide of trust for countless students sailing on their university and professional trips.

“Tim played a decisive role in helping me win a role in the highly competitive post-university sales program of IBM, which accepts less than 15% of candidates,” said Olivia Gulsvig (Business Administration, ’17). “He helped me refine how I positioned myself professionally – by reducing a convincing cover letter to navigation between interviews and wage conversations with confidence. The skills I acquired thanks to his mentoring laid the foundations for my success, not only to get the work but prosper. And I know that my story is not unique – Tim has helped countless students in a similar way. ”

Heinze’s inheritance also includes his leadership of the SEPATERLEIN sales program, which he created and directed for more than a decade. Under its vision, the program has become a national center recognized at the national level for sales education, gaining distinctions and forging partnerships with more than 50 companies. He also directed the development of the professional selling certificate of the program and the advanced selling laboratory, creating new paths for students through curriculum innovation and practical learning opportunities.

“An incredible quantity of self -development takes place during the college years, and I love to help students go from” teenageerhood “to” adulthood “,” said Heinze. “I try to show them not only What must be done to become productive members of the company, but also how Do it in a way that improves both itself and the world. »»

There are many of the distinctions of Heinze, including multiple awards “Best sales articles” and recognition as a specialist in the 25 best sales by the Global Sales Science Institute. Its students’ assessments are almost impeccable, and its mentoring continues to open doors to competition students, internships and careers.

Heinze obtained his doctorate in organizational management with a marketing accent from Capella University, an MS in marketing from Texas A&M University and a BS in Business Administration of Chico State, graduated with a 4.0 GPA in each establishment. Now, at the time when his academic journey started, Heinze is the cornerstone of the experience of Chico State – a teacher, a mentor and an inspiration for all those who enter his class.

Have you led to students through high -pressure sales competitions – what is your personal sale argument for winning someone?

Show a real concern. Once the others understand that you appreciate their well-being, they become receptive. Practice by showing a daily concern for others, and before, you become what you practice.

What is a class moment that made you laugh aloud or has completely taken you off guard (in the best way)?

After examining the class program, a student asked me to modify the exam dates. She said that the dates would not “work for her schedule”. She asked in such a nonchalant and daring way that I started to laugh … and then told her that she would be great in sales (because demand is half the battle). She found herself as a high level higher in a Fortune 500 company.

If you could teach a course outside of business or marketing for a day, what would it be and why?

A course in history / philosophy / religion in which we discuss a “theory of unified fields” of human existence. I like to study history and explore the data points that give us a meaning and which connect humans through the ages.

What would your students be surprised to learn about you?

I am an introvert.

If you could have lunch with a historic figure – linked to activities or not – who would it be and what would you like to talk about?

Jesus. And I would ask him the simple questions of life. Who am I, why am I, what am I, where am I and how can I get where you think I should be?
