A victory for the US mobilization weekend at the Concacaf Nations League has become a nightmare for Canada.
The first blow came from Bayern Munich, who announced Wednesday that the Captain of Canada Alphonso Davies had torn his previous cross ligament in Sunday’s 2-1 victory against the Americans in the third match at the Sofi stadium in Inglewood, California. Then, the agent of Davies accumulated, accusing Canada of putting pressure on the young man of Edmonton to start against the United States despite the fact of not being 100%.
Davies left the game in the 12th minute by promoting her knee after seeming to fall awkwardly while being difficult for the ball in the Canadian penalty box.
Davies was to undergo surgery on Wednesday.
The injury occurs about 15 months before the start of the 2026 World Cup, that Canada Co-Héberge. If everything is going well, it should be back in time to direct the Canadian 31st men – but months of hard work await him in the meantime.
“Alphonso was not 100% after the Mexico match (last Thursday) and it was planned that he was not going to start against the United States,” said agent Nick Huoseh in a statement provided to onesoccer. “On Saturday evening, the wait was that he would not be in the (start) 11. As a captain, I think he was put into force to start the game with the coach. Alphonso is not the kind of guy to say no in these moments. He ended up playing and looking at what happened.
“Canada football must do a better work to manage these players.”

Huoseh said Davies was “broken down and obviously very disappointed with this injury.”
Paulo Senra, director of communications and content of football in Canada, did not agree with the capture of the agent.
“We want to express our total support for our captain of the male national team, Alphonso Davies, while he recovers this unfortunate injury,” said Senra in a brief press release. “Phonzie’s strength and resilience corresponds to its world class talent, and we are all impatient to support it fully during its recovery.
“Canada football coaches and experienced medical staff are real professionals and have always prioritized the safety and well-being of players. Everything that suggests the opposite is false. “
Canada coach Jesse Marsch said on Monday that Bayern Munich Star Fullback felt “a little frightened because it was his knee and he moved in a certain way” when he went down early in the American match.
Marsch said Davies “treated a little injury” and had a fitness test before the match.
Marsch also said that if Richie Laryea had been available – Toronto FC’s great back / wingback had been sidelined by an hamstrings – he would probably have started Laryea on the left.
Davies made her 58th appearance for Canada.
Bayern, on its official website, did not provide a specific calendar for the return of Davies, other than saying that it would not be available for “several months” and would be sidelined “for a long time” after having undergone surgery to repair its right knee.
Canada is the next in action in early June at the Canadian Shield Tournament, a competition in four countries in Toronto. Davies should not be part of the Concacaf Gold Cup which later followed in June given the participation of Bayern in the FIFA club World Cup.
There were more bad news from Bayern with a word that the center of Dayot Upamecano will be released for “several weeks” with a problem on the left knee after his return playing the two legs of victory in the quarterfinals of France against Croatia in the League of UEFA Nations.
Upamecano was diagnosed with bulk bodies in his left knee, which should put it aside for several weeks.
“In the international breaks, there is unfortunately always a danger that the players come back injured, and this time, it struck us particularly strong,” the member of the board of directors of Bayern said on Wednesday. “The absences of Alphonso Davies and Dayot Upamecano weigh heavily on the Bayern of FC.
“Phonzy will get all the support he needs on his way to recovery. We will also close up the UPA in the coming weeks and we will wait for it to be available again soon. We have a strong team and will compensate for these absences. We will now get closer even more. The quality is there to continue to pursue our major objectives. ”
The quality will however be missing for Canada.
