Canada Ambassador to the United States Kirsten Hillman will assume the role of first negotiator for Canada while the country is looking for a New commercial and security pact With the Donald Trump administration.
Prime Minister Mark Carney’s office confirms that Hillman was appointed to this position, which returns his American representative to the number of Jamieson Greer representative in bilateral trade negotiations.
Emily Williams, Director of Communications at Carney, also confirms that Hillman will remain ambassador of Canada to the United States, as reported for the first time the Globe and Mail newspaper.

Hillman has been working at the Canada Embassy in Washington since 2017 and has been an ambassador since his actor meeting in 2019.
In the United States, there is no fixed term limit for Canadian ambassadors, but it is rare for someone to last more than seven years in the role.
Hillman was a key Canadian negotiator under Trump’s first White House when Canada renegotiated Alena and was chief negotiator of Canada for the transpacific partnership trade agreement.
