Albion – Albion Borough Council plans to limit when certain arcade games are authorized.
The Council will vote on a zoning amendment proposed to regulate the so -called redemption games, also known as the skills games on February 27. The buyout games are arcade games in which players win tickets or tokens that can be exchanged for prices.
The proposed amendment would limit the games to the zoned district areas for business and trade. Games would be prohibited in residential districts.
The reasoning
“We allow residents to have small businesses, such as an insurance company or a beauty salon, in residential areas. We do not want games of chance that have the potential to operate 24/7,” said declared the director of the district Gary Wells.
No one has yet offered to operate buyout games in a residential area, Wells said.
“We want to get ahead of it,” he said.
Exceptions
In addition to commercial areas, the prescription would allow buyout games in leisure districts for special occasions, such as the annual Albion area fair.
“They would be authorized in such cases on a temporary basis,” said Wells.
Planned public hearing
A public hearing on the proposed zoning amendment will take place at the office of the district of the Albion, 53 E. State St., February 27 at 6:15 p.m.
The council should vote on the amendment at the following commercial meeting.
