

Atlanta – Mercer University The graduate of December 2024, Michael Waldrop, was recently recognized as the Stetson Hatcher School of Business 2025 International Association of Professionals of Privacy (IAPP) Westin Scholar.
The annual Westin Scholar prices were created by IAPP to support students who are identified as future leaders in the field. Mercer is one of the only business schools in the world participating in the program.
Waldrop is Auburn, Alabama, and graduated in December 2024 with a Accounting master. He is the fourth student Mercer to receive the IAPP prize and was selected by Jordan “Jody” Mr. Blanke, Ernest L. Baskin, Jr. distinguished teacher of computer science and business school.
“Receiving this award was a pleasant surprise,” said Waldrop. “I am grateful to have received it and appreciate Professor Blanke for having appointed me. I appreciate the content and teaching style of Professor Blanke more.
This year, Blanke has received the Prize for Excellence in the teaching of Joe and Jean Hendricks from the University and has been at Mercer for 40 years, teaching a wide variety of higher education and undergraduate, law and ethical.
“(Waldrop) absolutely deserves this award,” said Blanke. “I hope he has the possibility of using his skills in the confidentiality arena.”
As a Westin scholarship holder, Waldrop will receive a cash price of $ 1,000, two years of membership in IAPP, three additional examinations for IAPP certifications and unlimited access to virtual training For all IAPP certification programs.

The Westin Scholar Awards Count tribute to the late Dr. Alan Westin, a fundamental voice in the field of privacy and data protection. Throughout his life, Dr. Westin has sought and wrote about privacy, data protection, digital identity and the future of the way companies will deal with problems at the intersection of the law and technology. He is the namesake of the Research Center and the Iapp Westin scholarship program, which was founded in 2013 and serves as a way for future community leaders.
