Provo – national digital inclusion alliance has appointed provo 2024 Visionary digital inclusion TrailblazerSecuring the city square as a winner for the fifth consecutive year.

The digital inclusion trailblazers program recognizes the local governments of the country that illustrate how to bring opportunities for digital education and internet access to all residents. Sixty pioneers across the country were recognized in 2024, making it the largest group of winners in the history of the program since its start in 2016.

Among the 25 states represented, Provo is the only local government in Utah recognized as a pioneer. PROVO was also one of the 34 laureates classified as “visionary pioneers” to be exceptional examples of entities that have deeply integrated digital inclusion efforts in their communities.

Digital inclusion efforts are particularly focused on poorly served communities, including those of the lower socioeconomic status, Hispanic and Latin residents and aging adults. According to data from Utah County Digital Inclusion Plan58% of Latin workers were limited to any digital access competence – Limit employment possibilities and skills in the workplace – and 52.7% of adults over 65 do not have access to the Internet at home.

Provo’s digital inclusion program adopts a three -steal approach to provide more opportunities to residents in need by offering digital education, access to computers and electronic devices and Internet access. Several community resources, such as the Library of the City of provo, offer free internet access and free digital literacy and computer skills courses. In addition to computers available for public use, the library also offers residents the possibility of consulting chromebooks and hot spots to access the internet from the house.

“The aim of this administrative directive is to ensure that the government of the city of Provo is considering a city where each resident has the easily accessible access possibilities, affordable and reliably Josh Ihrig, Director of the Division Provo information systems, in a press release. “In a equitable provo, communities will be connected – not divided – by technology.”

In the 2024 Update of digital inclusion programmingIHRIG said Provo provided more than 400 computers to residents in need and offered more than 163 digital skills training courses thanks to the digital inclusion program. This program is funded by the Government of Provo City and various community partnerships, including Centraide of the County of Utah, which offers an adoption program for a computer at low -income adult courses and IT skills.

“Centraide was proud to associate with Provo City while we are working together to guarantee that the advantages of our community technology benefit everyone,” said Bill Hulterstrom, President and Centraide Manager of County County Utah, in a press release. “Provo is certainly worthy of recognition for this good job.”
