Sylvester Stallone wants to continue moving forward with his plan to build an underwater barrier near his Palm Beach home, despite anger from neighbors in his affluent waterfront community.
Stallone, 78, reportedly plans to build an algae barrier in the Intracoastal Waterway near his $35 million mansion, according to The Palm Beach post.
What appears to be billed as a necessary environmental project to prevent debris and algae from entering the waterway, “the overall goal of the project is to prevent boaters” from being near the property, according to a public notice of Army Corps declared. Algae is listed as a secondary concern.
Neighbors were reportedly blindsided by the request for proposal from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, which said they had until 5 p.m. on Christmas Day to comment on Stallone’s project, according to the outlet.

The “Rocky” actor’s request also included a request to lease state land due to the location of the fence which is owned by the state, records show.

“He bought a beautiful property,” Stallone’s neighbor Bradford Gary told the outlet, calling the home “one of the most beautiful homes in the West Indies” in the North End. “I can understand why you would want to protect it. But you can’t just claim your right and think you own the water.”

Representatives for Stallone did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
In 2021, Stallone was confirmed as the buyer of a vast $35 million house, which sits on approximately 1.5 acres of lakefront, fronting over 250 feet of beach with a dock.
Total living space – including a main house, a guest house and a pool pavilion near the keyhole pool in the courtyard – spans more than 13,000 square feet. Between the main and guest spaces, the property has seven bedrooms and 12 bathrooms.

Records indicate the barrier request was submitted in January 2023, and plans were received by the Army Corps in August. A month-long public comment period began Oct. 24, during which a question was submitted regarding manatee entanglement and the effects of the proposed project on seagrass beds.

“The Corps is reviewing the intent of the project to determine whether the use of a barrier for the purpose of deterring boaters on the public waterway is permitted,” the Army Corps spokesperson said, according to the Palm Beach Post.

For residents Susan Gary and her husband Bradford, notice of the public comment period was only recently received in the mail, and well after the window had closed for them to voice their concerns.
“Usually when your neighbors want to do something, we found it in Palm Beach, usually they call,” Gary said. “A lot of neighbors are worried.”
Last year, Stallone spoke about his decision to move to the East Coast after building his career and family in Los Angeles. In the opening scenes of his Netflix documentary, “Sly,” Stallone opened up about the decision to move, saying it was beneficial to his creativity.

“I wasn’t moving because, ‘Oh, wow, I wanted another nice view.’ Every time you change that paradigm that you’ve become accustomed to, it’s literally restarting that process,” he explained.
