Registration is underway for the YMCA summer camps. The day offers day camps in 15 facilities in the Metropolitan region of Denver, as well as several specialized camps in specific places. The camps serve children aged 5 to 14.
“They are really fun,” confirmed Isaac, 10, who went to the camps for two summers. “The first time I went there and I saw two friends. One left the year after and one stayed. Then the following year, he was still there. So I’m not sure this year, but I hope he’s still there. He is a really nice child.”
“Since Covid, we know that many young people have suffered from an epidemic of loneliness. There is no better way to gather young people to teach them to interact in a safe environment,” said Sonya Walker, vice-president of programming, strategy and impact on Denver’s YMCA.

In addition to making great friends, Isaac was able to make excursions on the ground twice a week, to make artistic projects and he even obtained a free swimming time in the pool.
“Each week, we have another D-Y tie which is a character competence on which we are going to work. So maybe a week will be respect, and the whole week will be focused on this and all the activities will represent this character tie,” said Walker.
To spice up the summer, it offers a culinary camp, an adventure camp and a basketball camp. Isaac learned to cook.
“I cooked a lot of healthy salads, healthy tacos and things like that,” he told CBS News Colorado.
“My eldest son likes basketball, so it was a natural fit for him. After the culinary camp, my younger son decided that he wanted to be a chief, and you know, it is a skill of life that he can take for the rest of his life.
The YMCA camp is more than filling in children’s day. This helps them develop educational and emotional skills that will serve them as they get older.
