Event presented by Calhope and Purina, in partnership with the Kids Mental Health Foundation
LOS ANGELES – In the celebration of the month of awareness of mental health, the Galaxy, Calhope, Purina and the Mental Kids Health Foundation organized a round table with the striker of the Galaxy Christian Ramirez on Wednesday May 21 at 1 p.m. PT. A group of 50 primary students from Para Los NiƱos attended and participated in the event.
The longtime broadcaster of the Galaxy, Joe Tutino, has moderated a conversation between the students, Ramirez, Dr. Cathy L. Butz, PHD – a contributor to the Kids Mental Health Foundation and a pediatric psychologist at the National Children’s Hospital – and a representative of Calhope. After the discussion, the students moved into groups in small groups where they collaborated in the stress management plans and explored the importance of managing stress in their daily lives. The event ended with a game session with Wags and Walks dogs, a group closely linked to Purina community efforts and a group photo.
As a native of southern California, Ramirez has remained passionate about the construction of a world where mental health is a vital part of the education of each child in Los Angeles and beyond. He was recently honored by the Champions of Influence for Mental Health Award of the Kids Mental Health Foundation for his plea work.
May is recognized as the month of awareness of mental health, an annual observation founded by mental health America in 1949 to highlight the importance of mental well-being, educate the public, reduce stigma and promote support for people affected by mental health problems. Each year, individuals and organizations meet to raise awareness and defend the improvement of mental health care and resources.
