According to a study by Point 2 Homes, Canadians are choosing to rent on their own rather than owning.
In fact, the study, which contains data through 2021, indicates that for the first time, the number of Canadians who rent alone exceeds those who own a single home.

This is particularly prevalent among seniors, notably in Regina and Saskatoon, where seniors represented 32 and 28% of solo renters in Saskatchewan’s two largest cities, respectively, in 2021.
