BEMIDJI — Bemidji State University is accepting applications from students in grades 6-12 for the Northern Minnesota Regional Science Fair, hosted Feb. 28 at BSU.

Particularly for students attending schools that no longer host local fairs, the fair allows students to register and compete directly in a regional competition and potentially qualify for a state-level fair in March.

Students who live in one of 18 northern Minnesota counties: Aitkin, Beltrami, Benton, Cass, Clearwater, Crow Wing, Hubbard, Itasca, Kittson, Koochiching, Lake of the Woods, Marshall, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Pennington, Red Lake, Reed. or Wadena – are eligible to submit projects. Students must register their projects before February 10.

Organizers described the fair as “a celebration of scientific exploration and innovation,” allowing participating students to win prizes in their respective categories. Special prizes will also be awarded to projects demonstrating innovation and the potential for real-world impact. The best projects will be promoted to compete at the 87th Annual Minnesota Science and Engineering Fair March 28 at the State Fair Grounds in St. Paul.

“These resources are designed to support students at every stage of their science journey, from conceptualization to presentation,” said. Dr. Kjerstin Owens, professor of biology and one of the fair coordinators, in a press release.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under the byline “staff.” Often, the byline “personnel” is used when rewriting basic informational documents that come from official sources, such as a city press release regarding a road closure, and that require little or no reporting. Sometimes this byline is used when a news story includes many authors or when the news story is formed by aggregating previously reported information from various sources. If outside sources are used, this is noted in the story.

Hi, I’m the Brainerd Dispatch. I started work a few days before Christmas 1881 and became a daily worker two years later. I’ve experienced a lot of changes over the years, but what has never changed is my commitment to the community and local journalism. I have an entire team of dedicated people who work night and day to make sure I get out there every morning, whether in print, e-edition, through an app, or with additional information at www.brainerddispatch.com . News, weather, sports – videos, photos, podcasts and social media – all covering central Minnesota stories about your neighbors, your lakes, your communities, your challenges and your opportunities. It’s all part of efforts to keep people connected and informed. And we couldn’t do it without support.
