Every week, I go through Netflix’s list of upcoming releases to see which of its new Netflix Originals will actually be worth watching, to suggest the real cream of the crop. This week’s round-up of new shows and films arriving between Saturday January 4 and Friday January 10.
Netflix started the year with a huge amount of content, so it took a lot of work to create this curated list. But after going through the entire list of new originals, I’ve chosen the ones that will likely end up being the most talked about or streamed in the coming weeks.

We start the week with a Scandinavian crime drama inspired by a true story.
The breakthrough It’s a double murder that turns into a cold case, but a detective and a genealogist believe changes in the latter’s case could lead to the homicide finally being solved.
There are four episodes of The breakthrough and they will all arrive on Netflix on Tuesday, January 7.
Jerry Springer: fights, camera, action

The two-part documentary arrives on Tuesday, January 7
The controversial and divisive talk show Jerry Springer has released nearly 4,000 episodes over nearly three decades, and now Netflix is releasing a two-part documentary series about it.
Jerry Springer: fights, camera, action interviews the people who made and participated in the series to explore how it became so big for so long. However, we will also discover the negative ramifications that appear in Jerry Springer had for his guests, and if it was all worth it.
The two episodes of Fighting, Camera, Action arrives on Netflix on Tuesday, January 7.
I am a killer season 6

True-crime documentary returns Wednesday, January 8
Only three months after its last series of episodes, a true detective anthology documentary I am a killer returns for its sixth season.
Each episode of I am a killer features a convicted murderer, and we see interviews with them as they explain what drove them to commit suicide.
There are six episodes joining together I am a killer with season 6, and you will be able to watch them starting Wednesday, January 8.
Primitive American

The neo-western series begins on Thursday January 9
One of the biggest shows on Netflix in January is Primitive Americana new neo-Western series set in 1857 starring Taylor Kitsch, Dane DeHaan, Jai Courney, Shea Whigham and Betty Gilpin.
Primitive American follows different groups in the American West as they struggle to survive in a violent world. There are trappers, Crow tribal soldiers, and Mormon settlers all trying to stay alive.
The six episodes of Primitive American arrives on Netflix on Thursday, January 9.
The Upshaws season 6

The sitcom returns for more on Thursday, January 9
The Upshaws is about a working-class black family in Indianapolis who are simply trying to make things work, despite the ups and downs of life.
The Upshaws Season 6, or Part 6 as the streamer calls it, is the penultimate batch of episodes of this long-running comedy series. Netflix hasn’t said what’s happening there, although by the end of season 5, some characters had left and others had moved even closer to the family.

Ad Vitam

The French thriller arrives on Friday January 10
We end the week with the second French Netflix Original entitled Ad Vitamafter a 2018 sci-fi series.
The 2025 Ad Vitam The story of a former elite soldier whose wife is kidnapped must escape assassination attempts and shed light on a conspiracy that affects the whole of France.
The film is 96 minutes long and arrives on Netflix on Friday, December 10.
