St. John’s wins the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation subsidy to support the Center for Psychological Services

St. John’s University has received a subsidy of $ 200,000 from the non -profit foundation of Mother Cabrini Health to improve the impact of the St. John’s psychological service centerLocated in the Seton complex along Union Turnpike in Flushing, NY.

Created in 1986, the Center provides mental health services to community residents and training possibilities for university graduate students Clinical psychology And School psychology Doctoral programs. It is housed about a mile west of QueensNY, campus and is open from Monday to Saturday.

Reflecting the diversity of queens, the unique subsidy, with the possibility of renewal, will allow the center to hire a psychologist limited to New York State and a doctoral student who masters Spanish and can provide culturally informed therapy.

“The cultural sensitivity, the diversity of health care personnel and the language are important factors to provide good mental health care,” said Tara Rooney, PH.D., Director of the Center for Psychological Services. “The need to expand the services of the center to support the Queens community has never been so urgent.”

Almost all patients in St. John’s Center come from neighboring communities and almost 60% declare household income for less than $ 30,000. Almost 60% of patients in the center are children. Individual and group therapy services are available at a low to moderate cost and are provided by university graduate students under the supervision of approved teachers. The Center also offers free mental health services for soldiers and their immediate families.

THE Mother Cabrini health foundation is the largest charity based on New York State health care. It comes from the 2018 sale of the former non -profit health insurer Fidelis Care and is devoted to increasing access to health care among the poor in the state.

The foundation is named after Mother Frances Xavier Cabrinifounder of Missionary sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesuswhose legacy of helping the poor and the badly served in New York was chronic in the film 2024 Cabrini.
