In addition to being a sporting drug addict, I am a sports snobbishness. And in my opinion not so humble, the new alternative uniform of the Cubs has more in common with the very disappeared Montreal exhibitions than the Cubs or the electric blues.
The failures – as in the two definitions of the word – are part of a sports trend which has become uncontrollable. In pursuit of the precious dollar, the teams put on so many uniforms that some do not seem only silly, but they are unidentifiable.
You have surely turned on a game and you wondered, even for a second, that the devil plays. Then you look at the scorebug, hoping to see the corresponding colors, but most only add to the confusion.
See the connection of sports media?
When I saw the alternative uniform of the Cubs, the color of the baby blue jersey and the red number and the police on the front mentioned the memories of the exhibitions, which wore a similar summit of their creation in 1969 to 1991. The multicolored crown of the cap is also similar to that of the exhibitions.
The “C” in “Cubs” on the jersey and the cap looks like a horseshoe. And if the cubs go back to their original Blue Days in 1941-1942-they were the first modern team with the major league to wear the color-why is the pants white?
However, the jersey was a success with fans. CUBS ‘commercial operations president Crane Kenney said on the score that the team had sold more from this jersey during the first week than the city to connect the “Wrigleyville” jersey during the first year. Beauty is in the spectator’s eye, I suppose.
But how much should fans pay attention to team cabinets to find out who? The NBA has become comical for its uniforms and their designations: association, city, icon and declaration, and four teams also have conventional jerseys.
The NBA teams becoming so difficult to identify, ESPN was thought out enough to change its score bug a few years ago to correspond to the color of each team’s jersey, like most football shows. The TNT and Chicago sports network does not do so. Hoping that NBC and Prime Video are next season.
What was wrong with the home team still bearing white? Nowadays, you could see an NBA match with the two teams mainly carrying home jerseys. Last week, the Warriors wore White (Association) to Lakers, who wore Yellow (ICON), which was their homemade color forever.
When the NBA started this nonsense in 2017, the Bulls wore red (icon) at home. Fans did not take it because of their good memories of seeing Michael Jordan’s bulls in white. The team changed CAP and largely carries white at home. Good movement.
I would like to be able to say the same thing for the NHL, which started to make the teams bring white on the road in 2003. Throughout my childhood, the Blackhawks wore white at home, and it was a treat to see these sweaters because only the road matches, in which the Hawks wore red, were televised.
It was delicious to see the different colors of the teams go through the city. But since the change – which has been made to accommodate alternative home sweaters and increase their sales, of course – the fans see the same colors in every home game: the Hawks in red, the opponent in white.
I am a traditionalist. Aside from football, in which the home team chooses the color to wear, I like the teams at home in white. It took me years to accept the High Royal-Blue of the Cubs and the black top of the White Sox (it’s a pointed jersey, and the diamond / sock sleeve patch is underestimated).
This is why all these MLB City connection jerseys bother me so much. They are all horrible (although the SOX Southside whole is the least horrible). And more horrible sets surely arrive this season, including for SOX.
This is part of the MLB-Nike agreement which requires a package of “four plus” uniforms: a house, a road, two substitutes and a connection in town. Honestly, do teams need five uniforms? So, they can sell the jerseys five times, of course they do it.
I am happy for the Cubs that the sales of the baby blue jersey will finally allow Kenney to fill this wheelbarrow of money which he promised to throw the office of Theo Epstein 10 years ago. Maybe they will put him in Kyle Tucker.

The first mini-documentary of the NBA journalist “Scoop B” Robinson, “The Freezeout”, examines the 1985 stars game, in which Isiah Thomas would have led a plan to limit the involvement of the recruit Michael Jordan. The program is available on the Robinson Youtube channel, @Scoopb.
