News of news from Steve Schulwitz Sports Page Lounge, the new owner, Brian Peterson, stands in front of a Detroit Tigers flag at the bar in Alpena on Wednesday. Peterson said he did not intend to make important changes to the popular bar, but intends to make it more than a sports bar than it is now.
Alpena – A popular water hole in Alpena has a new owner, but people in northeast Michigan should not expect large changes in the business.
Sports Page Lounge, which has belonged to Bob Adamski for almost four decades, was sold in Brian Peterson last month. Most of the staff familiar with customers and the community has been preserved.
Peterson said he intended to make subtle changes to the bar, mainly cosmetic, and add to beer menu to the pressure beer. He said popular events, entertainment and customer service for which the bar will take place will continue, and he thinks that regulars and new customers will feel welcome and want to come back.
Peterson said over the years, he appreciated an occasional drink on the sports page and appreciated his atmosphere and his variety of customers.
“It’s a cool bar and I have always loved,” said Peterson. “I like its appearance inside and architecture, and I have always had a good time. I will not change it too much. I will do a few things, but I don’t want to reinvent the wheel either. ”
Peterson has already continued the heritage of some of Adamski’s popular events. On the day of the opening of the Detroit Tigers, he organized an event and also organized a Cinco de Mayo festival. He said he intended to make the bar more than a sports bar, where people can enter, enjoy a ball game or other sporting event and enjoy a cocktail.
“I want to put big televisions all around and really look at the sports theme,” he said. “It can be a place where you can enter, have a beer, take a little food and watch the match. You can also come after having finished playing golf with your friends and simply relying on being more a real sports bar. I think there is an opportunity in Alpena for it. ”
The Sports page is also known to have live entertainment with regional groups. Peterson said that he intended to continue presenting the talent of musicians in northeast Michigan and other types of entertainment.
The bar is in the recently extended city center development district, and the DDA has already helped improve the appearance and dynamics of this section of rue Chisholm. Several companies, such as PUB and GRUB players, and Clem’s Bait and Tackle have undergone improvement projects, and Peterson said that the presence of the DDA could help stimulate growth and development in this section of the city. He said it might include other bars.
“The best thing to have in front of a bar is another bar,” said Peterson.
To promote his business, transactions and events, Peterson said he was going to be very active on social networks to attract customers to the bar.
He said social media has helped promote his two other companies, the old Polish corner and the Nowicki sausage store, and he thinks it will be the same with the sports page.
“Nowicki and the Polish corner have quite impressive follow-up, and the sports page already does so too,” he said. “I think that because of social media, many people know what we are doing and what are the events.”
