Solon, Ohio – The teams of the Scientific Olympiads of Solon schools brought national purposes at the top -five after having faced the best scientific students in the country during the National Scientific Olympiad tournament in 2025.
Solon Middle School’s team won third place in the general classification, while Solon High School finished fourth. The tournament took place from May 23 to 24 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and presented 120 teams and nearly 2,000 students from the United States.
The competition has tested the knowledge and skills of students in a range of STEM materials, including physics, chemistry, epidemiology, engineering, robotics and astronomy. The teams qualified for nationals by ranking in the first two during their respective state tournaments earlier this year.
“We are incredibly proud of the exceptional performance of our Solon students at the National Olympiads of Sciences tournament,” said the Superintendent of Solon schools Fred Bolden. “Their impressive results reflect months of hard work, mutual support and collaborative spirit that defines our program. These students really illustrate what it means to continue scientific excellence as a unified team. ”
Solon Middle School Wei Huang coach praised the team’s constant performance throughout the season.
“Our team continued its tradition of excellence with a remarkably coherent performance this season – ranking in the top 10 of 20 on 23 events,” said Huang. “We are particularly proud of our sixth and seventh year alternates, who have intensified four test events and obtained three first terminals, presenting the brilliant future of our program.”

“I have never been with such a motivated and tight group together,” said Pobbati. “Our consistency has shown the effort that everyone has made week after week to arrive so far. I’m so happy to have been part of this family for years. ”
For his compatriot Captain Nina Van Zandweghe, the trip was a memorable final for his trip to the scientific Olympiad.
“This year’s nationals were a truly wonderful experience where I had some of my favorite memories,” she said. “This group of people is so fun to be there and I have never laughed stronger in my life.”
