CLOVIS, Calif. (KFSN) — Rustika Cafe and Bakery in Clovis mixes cultures by serving breakfast and lunch.

“Rustika means old-fashioned in Spanish, so they wanted to incorporate it into the name,” explains Marco Reznick. “This is how we make all our products the old-fashioned way, by hand, with all-natural ingredients.”

Although the restaurant is new to Clovis, it started 30 years ago in Houston. The company sent Reznick, the son of a Texas restaurant owner and manager, to help open its fifth location.

He says his mother’s travels inspire the menu items. He says the alfahores and empanadas are must-haves.

“We’re excited to bring unique flavors to the region, something inviting to all cultures,” says Reznick.

Located in the mall next to Willow and Herndon, this is the family-owned establishment’s first California location.

“All the dishes and desserts that we make ourselves, we wanted to make sure we transferred to the cafe as well, which is why we use our chocolate ganache for the mochas that we use for the cakes,” says Reznick.

The tempting offers don’t stop there. The homemade caramel and Mexican vanilla are the icing on the cake, literally and figuratively.

Open less than a month, customer favorites and breakfast must-haves include chilaquiles with homemade salsas and this French toast made with homemade challah bread.

Navdip Singh, owner of this Clovis location, moved to the Central Valley a year ago with the goal of sharing something special with the community.

“If you look at our menu, it’s very diverse,” says Singh. “like our slogan, fusion of culture. We merge everything in one place.”

In addition to dining in or eating takeout from the cafe bar, window shopping is encouraged with these eye-catching pastries and desserts that are equally enticing.

“Our pastries, we have a croissant, we have a blueberry cheese croissant. We make everything fresh here. If you look at our kitchen, you’ll see we have people who work very hard,” Singh says.
