SGMC Health appointed Sheila Register, RN, of the Berrien emergency service, as a hero of the June health system for his rescue actions for two separate medical emergencies involving colleagues.
In two separate medical emergencies, the register has shown extraordinary attention and pressure under pressure. Twice, she recognized subtle signs that her colleagues were choking and actually acted. The first incident occurred during a quarter of work early in the morning when she observed a colleague silently signaling distress. Register did Heimlich’s maneuver and managed to dislodge a candy, allowing the individual to breathe again.
The second event occurred in the new emergency service when the register noticed another member of the team in distress while lunch. She quickly alerted the others and started Heimlich’s maneuver. With the support of another staff member, the obstruction has been deleted.
Register’s ability to recognize subtle medical emergency signs and to respond quickly reflects its strong clinical training and attention to detail. His actions directly contributed to the security and well-being of his teammates.
The register received a standing ovation from the people present.
