SGMC Health recently celebrated the completion of construction of an 11,500 square foot medical office on its main campus. This includes the opening of two new clinical sites, SGMC Vascular Surgery and SGMC Cardiac Electrophysiology, as well as an expansion of the SGMC Cardiology suite, all located in the SGMC Healthcare Professional Building.
Since its inception in 2011, the three-story glass building on the corner of Patterson Street and Woodrow Wilson Drive has been a cornerstone of outpatient services, offering a stand-alone imaging center and walk-in lab on the first floor.
Over the years, the building evolved into a specialty healthcare center, housing a wide range of doctors’ offices on the upper floors. The facility now houses eight practices staffed by 21 physicians and 15 mid-level providers. Medical practices improve access to specialty care, encompassing a wide range of services including cardiology, interventional cardiology, structural cardiology, cardiac electrophysiology, pulmonology and surgery, with specialists in cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, vascular surgery, endocrine surgery, colorectal surgery, plastic surgery and bariatric surgery.
SGMC Health’s commitment to expanding its physician network is reflected in its continued recruitment of top medical professionals. Recognizing the community’s growing health care needs, SGMC Health continues to attract qualified physicians and specialists to South Georgia, strengthening its ability to provide comprehensive, cutting-edge care.
“This expansion represents a significant investment in the health of our community,” said Johnny Ball, senior vice president of operations for the regional hospital. “With these additional resources and providers, we are better equipped to meet the diverse health care needs of our region, ensuring our patients have access to the best care close to home.”
The professional building has become a vital healthcare resource for South Georgia, integrating advanced diagnostics and specialized treatments under one roof. The new space will not only improve the patient experience, but also streamline collaboration between physicians, fostering innovative care solutions.
As SGMC Health continues to grow and adapt to the dynamic healthcare landscape, the Professional Building expansion demonstrates its unwavering commitment to excellence and innovation. By bringing more specialists and advanced services to the region, SGMC Health reaffirms its role as a healthcare leader in South Georgia and beyond.
SGMC Health has the most comprehensive physician network in the region, with more than 100 providers. With 12 primary care locations and more than 20 specialty offices in Lowndes, Berrien and Lanier counties, the network provides more than 300,000 patient encounters annually.
