Nacogdoches, Texas –– Two business students from Stephen F. Austin State University will prove their skills on a national scene after winning the honors of Texas Future Business Leaders of America Collegiate Stateadership in February. Jessica Frasier and Julian Ieva, both students of the Rusche College of Business of SFA and members of the SFA FBLA students section, will go to the National FBLA leadership conference after obtaining the main internships at the state level in financial and public speaking competitions.
To package, president of the FBLA section of SFA and Senior General of Bay City affairs, the competition was an invaluable opportunity to develop financial and communication skills of the real world. She obtained first place in the financial case competition and second place in the public speaking competition.
“National and national leadership conferences are a great way to connect with other young professionals while learning more and in competition in the skills necessary for a professional career,” said Frasier. “As a person who hopes to become a financial advisor one day, the case of financing cases allowed me to prepare a customer analysis with the necessary details, to present a budget in a easily digestible manner and, in addition to the public speaking, to transmit all this information in an organized and professional manner while obtaining comments from the judges on the way in which I can improve.”
Julian IEVA, treasurer of the Houston FBLA and Junior Accounting Junior Chapter, found a particular advantage in networking and professional development opportunities. Ieva won second place for the foundations of the financial competition.
“Leadership conferences are a great way for students to practice networking,” said IEVA. “We were able to hear competent speakers who directed workshops to help us develop professionally. I am very grateful that the business college helps us to attend these conferences. The nationals will be another excellent opportunity to connect with industry professionals. »»
Frasier and Ieva will participate in the FBLA Leadership National Conference from May 31 to June 2 in Dallas.
“The hard work of Jessica and Julian is to bear fruit,” said Dr. Marice Kelly, assistant professor of commercial communication and legal studies at SFA and faculty advisor for the University FBLA section. “We are so proud of them and we can’t wait to see how they do the national championships.”
