Fincastle, Virginie (WDBJ) – It’s a timeless story of love, sorrow and fraternal devotion, the show on stage at Grenier productions is adapted from the classic novel by Jane Austen.
“This June marks the 250th anniversary of the birth of Jane Austen. So, “Sense and Sensility” was her first novel that she published, which has just published “by a Lady”. She didn’t even have her name there, ”explains director Angela McNeil.
Sense and Sensibility follows the sisters of Dashwood, Elinor practical and passionate of Marianne.
“They are considered as higher classes, but because of the laws on the heritage of the 19th century, they lose everything when all their homes and goods are transmitted to the male heir. You have the sister who is so sensible that she will sacrifice her own happiness and will suffer alone against the other sister, who is so emotional that she will speak of it whole.
Elizabeth Brancati plays Marianne Dashwood.
“She was just a pleasure to play. I had a lot of fun with her, I was a very new character for me and I think the most difficult character for me, but I really appreciate it, ”explains Brancati.
Emotional struggles and themes of “meaning and sensitivity” are still relevant today.
“So many people suffering alone, not knowing how to ask for help or share their sorrow. So, “meaning and sensitivity” is really to balance the two to really find happiness and peace, “explains McNeil.
