Sioux Falls, SD – The state of southern Dakota obtained its fifth consecutive cup from the Summit League Commissioner and set a new championship record with its 10th in the general classification, the conference office announced on Monday. The Jackrabbits won first place by earning 94 points in total between their male and women programs and also swept the All-Sports Dr. Helen Smiley Prize and the Dr. William Steinbre All Prix.

The commissioner’s cup is given each year to the member institution which collects the most combined points in relation to its placement in the ranking of the regular season for male and female soccer, volleyball, male and female basketball, male and female tennis, softball and baseball and its placement of championship in the track and golf for men and golf for men and golf. All-sport prices are awarded to institutions that accumulate the most points in sports for men and female sports.

Under the direction of the director of athletics Justin SellSDSU has won regular seasonal titles in women’s basketball and volleyball and a title of champion in the female cross-country. Jackrabbit’s men have become the first program since 2006-07 to capture cross-country championships, athletics in the dinner and outdoors in the same season. This fall, the Jackrabbits cross country victory has extended their nine consecutive tracks, which is a championship record.

Other contributions from important points came from the Jackrabbits women’s golf team, which finished second in the Summit League championship, as well as women’s, softball, male basketball and swimming and diving, which all finished third in their respective final ranking.

The Jacks also won the Cup of the Summit League Commissioner in 2010-11, 2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16, 2020-21, 2021-22, 2022-23 and 2023-24. SDSU was also the last member of the Summit League to sweep the three prizes of the same season when the department completed this feat in 2014-15.

The state of northern Dakota finished second in the three prizes this season, while the southern Dakota took third place. The Bison obtained 87 points in total, while the coyotes produced 78 in all sports.

SDSU has won the Steinbrecher Prize for the 10th time in the past 13 years, ending with 38 points, while the Bison was second with 35 points and the Coyotes finished third with 31 points.

The Jackrabbits have exceeded the classification of All-Sports Dr. Helen Smiley prices for the first time since 2020-2021 and sixth time in the general classification, ending with 56 points, which was only four points ahead of the Bison.
