“Linaje” is part of the series of López “our vemos a Día”, an exploration of memory, time and transformative power of human connection. This is one of the three pieces that López exhibited in the annual first cycle exhibition of the Ministry of Art and Design.
“I went from this person who was going to go out and bounce everywhere to spend all my time in the art building,” she said.
Brinley offered a perspective that helped her return to herself.
“He called me a groundhog,” said López. “He said I had to get my head out of my little hole and talk to people again.”
López said she would wear this lesson with her after graduation. Art can be a solitary field, and although she likes her work, she is determined to find a balance in life and not only to paint 24 hours a day, just one of the many ways in UD has helped her grow.
“Without the encouragement of teachers and other peers I met here, I would never have had the courage to experiment, to put myself there and finally have a voice with my work,” she said.

Coming to UD was mainly a financial choice for López, but now that she finished her diploma, she knows that it was the right choice for many reasons.
“I am happy to have done a lot here, like meeting people outside my major,” she said. “I am so happy to have chosen UD because there are so many different people with so many life experiences and directions that they want to take.”
She was an ambassador for UD decision days, and when she speaks to potential and incoming students, she remembers what she learned from Brinley to go out and live as much as possible.
“It’s easy to make friends in your department, but you don’t know who will be your friend for the next four years,” she said. “So that’s what I say to anyone. Make friends, talk to people, go to events. ”
López received an honorable mention for the Lynn Sharp Prize of 2025, awarded to three students in fine arts each year in collaboration with The contemporary of Delaware Art center.
