With all the respect due to Niska, his recent declaration on sending a “clear message to Minnesota taxpayers according to which the benefits funded by taxpayers are not a reward for having violated federal immigration laws”, let me ask me: what “Minnesota taxpayers” is he talking about? I understand that many, perhaps most, undocumented immigrants in Minnesota pay taxes. Is it the group he talks about?
I believe in responsibility and honesty. And you? Then, let’s be honest: first, people of other nations who have freely chosen to enter illegally, live and work in our country have the right to advantages that take the necessary health funds for legal citizens / immigrants? (Also think of veterans and residents of nursing homes.) Second, a newspaper, linked by professional standards of objectivity and duty to fully inform the public on critical issues, to defend a cause or a selected group of people using a unworthy / inaccurate formulation to do so?
The title “Minnesotacare is stripped of adult immigrants“From June 10 (the article itself uses” undocumented “) shows how misleading the Star Tribune has become deceived by merging the terms. There is a big difference between legal and illegal immigrants – those who respect immigration law and those who sneak. Almost no one promotes discrimination against legal immigrants (either, I do not make these friends. Lying, as illegal immigrants have documents – or they would not be eligible for conduct legally, as clearly indicated in the bill on “driving license for everyone”, adopted last year.
More importantly, with medical advantages, Minnesota would reward the dishonesty of thousands (and would encourage more to come) which believe that they are above the law, having now become demanding advantages openly vocal. If those who were illegally entered in our country are so worthy, wouldn’t it be done more well by their residence in their country of origin? Our statue of freedom, a gift from France celebrating the proclamation of emancipation, looking outwards, encourages democracy around the world. What is we believing in?
