(St. Joseph, Mo.) Super science on Saturday returned to the Missouri Western State University for its 25th year, continuing to educate people in different scientific fields just before the Super Bowl on Sunday.
Since 2000, the Missouri Western State University and the museums of St. Joseph have teamed up to give life to Super Science Saturday, featuring different companies around St. Joe to show the science behind them.
“It was an event for children and their families to celebrate science before the Super Bowl. So it’s a super science on Saturday, Super Bowl Sunday,” said Shelly Haynes, educational programmer for St. Joseph museums .
This year being their most important to date.
“This is our biggest event participating to this day. I have no figures for participants, but we have the most people with different scientific activities than ever,” continued Haynes.
Participants visited Missouri Western, which was adorned with all kinds of aligned materials so that children can learn, from nursing care to mathematics.
Jonathan Rhoad, coordinator of Missouri Western, described the programs they had.
“Many departments are involved. Thus, nursing, respiratory therapies, biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, all bring students or teachers to come and do demonstrations or practical activities with children”, said Rhoad.
At the end of their visit, these children left with new knowledge of science and an incentive to find out more.
“I hope they are enthusiastic about science, first and foremost. I also hope that they are enthusiastic about Missouri Western, right? So, we have good facilities here, we have great teachers, we have excellent students. So I just hope that they bring this excitation to the house for science, mathematics and sciences, and for Missouri Western, “continued Rhoad.
And the organizers hoped that everyone went to have a good time.
“I love to see all the children and their families and the community that comes out and support and learn about science and have a good time,” finished Haynes.
The organizers say that Saturday super science will continue in the future so that they can continue to show people more on the world of science.
