SailGP announced on Wednesday an extension of its US television agreement with CBS Sports, with a record 54 hours of coverage of the Rolex SailGP Championship to be broadcast on CBS Sports platforms during the 2025 season. The first race of the new agreement will be airs this Saturday when CBS broadcasts the Dubai Sail Grand Prix at 2 p.m. ET.
Considered “the most exciting water racing in the world” and downstream of solid-terrain racing series such as Formula 1, SailGP was founded in 2019 by Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison and champion of the sailing world Sir Russell Coutts, and has since become one of the most important sailing competitions in the world. The growth of the sport now continues with the renewal of its agreement with CBS Sports as well as the launch of the largest fleet of F50 foiling catamarans ever in the sport.
“We are thrilled to make history with the largest ever U.S. broadcast deal for SailGP, as the appetite for the most exciting on-water racing continues to grow in the U.S. market” , Coutts said in a statement. “Following last season’s record viewership numbers, CBS Sports’ increased commitment to our league provides further proof that SailGP is one of the fastest growing sports and entertainment properties in the world.”
“SailGP is a dynamic, high-octane race set against the backdrop of the most beautiful vistas in the world,” said Greg Trager, CBS Sports vice president of programming. “They have a growing fan base and we look forward to welcoming them back for another exciting season.”
The 2025 SailGP calendar includes three race weekends in the United States in key markets including Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York. The series will also take place in Britain, Australia, Germany, Italy and other countries around the world.
