Nashville, Tennessee (WSMV) – The High School Antioch will remain closed on Monday for students after a fatal shooting in the cafeteria on Wednesday January 22.
Upon their return Tuesday, they will go through a weapon detection system loaned to school.
Metro Nashville public schools said it was taking immediate measures to strengthen security and security at AHS.
On Friday, MNPS managers began to install EVOLV systems. MNPS said EVOLV is a weapon detection system and safety technology that has been temporarily loaned by system integrations.
Evolv uses artificial sensors and intelligence to quickly detect weapons and other prohibited objects. The system will allow students to browse without removing personal objects for a quick and seamless entrance, MNPS said.
According to MNP, this technology is used in places like the Nissan stage to improve safety with a minimum of disturbance.
MNPS said the systems were finalized and tested throughout the weekend.
In addition to EVOLV systems, MNPs have also given staff training.
“We intend that the pilot program continues indefinitely in High Antioche,” said MNP spokesperson. “This initial pilot will provide us with data and information to clarify future logistics and financing plans for additional security measures in other schools in the future.”
Ahs will remain closed for students on Monday, January 27. Students had planned a ranging that morning.
MNPs said that when students return Tuesday, and for the rest of the week, AHS will favor the emotional well-being of students with mourning advice, mental health support, distribution practices and strengthening activities the community.
“We will implement an alternative lunch plan for students while the cafeteria remains closed for current repairs and space reinvention,” said MNP.
MNPS said additional security updates will be shared with families in the coming days.
