Sometimes “F1: The Movie” looks like an elegant clip, with the action on the screen perfectly synchronized with the partition of Hans Zimmer, which mixes in rock fusion as a page and plant belt “Whole Lotta Love” or while the Arena Queen rock group rivals with the Thunder Rolay of Formula One. Judging by the many radical drones, the director Joseph Kosinski (“Top Gun: Maverick”) remains obsessed by the sky, supported by the scene of the compulsory airborne accident. You could describe the film as explosive because it moves with strength and confidence while the characters take place in the superficial path. However, the race scenes are exciting, and there are Brad Pitt.
There are character nuances of Brad Pitt’s cliff stand from “Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood” in his performance of the Sonny Hayes race pilot. He is constantly in cold mode even if his better days are behind him – also similar to Colt Seavers in “The Fall Guy”, played by Ryan Gosling. Can we get the three characters in a film on a folk-rock supergroup, Booth, Hayes and SeaSvers? Ask Ryan Coogler to direct him to work on this “see-double” magic that he used for the double of Michael B. Jordans. Easy land.
Sonny is a living nomad of his van and was once a rising star in Formula 1 in the 1990s. An accident has derailed his career. His former teammate, Ruben Cervantes (Javier Bardem), now manages the APXGP F1 team and needs a pilot. Ruben’s team is in the last place, even with the recruit of Hotshot Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris).
As you can guess, Ruben asks Sonny to join the team. Of course, three decades have stolen, but Sonny still lives life on the fast way. It may not be Formula 1, but he has just won the 24 Hours of Daytona, in an exhilarating scene featuring the classic Led Zeppelin “Whole Lotta Love”. The soundtrack includes drops of Ratt needles, Burna Boy, Chris Stapleton, Tate Mcrae, Roddy Ricch, Rosé, Queen, Obongjayar and the Banger “Lose My Mind” by Don Toliver (Feat. Doja Cat), which becomes the film signature track. Kosinski has the talent to choose songs that improve the soundtrack. “Top Gun: Maverick” presented songs from David Bowie, T. Rex, and the Who, with a new song by Lady Gaga.
The screenwriter Ehren Kruger highlights the rivalry between Joshua and Sonny, while the recruit becomes intimidated by the veteran driver. “I think it’s really wonderful that Apx gives a second chance to the elderly,” quips Joshua at a press conference. The young driver has a close relationship with his mother, Bernadette (Sarah Niles), who is always nearby to provide support and keep his son’s ego under control. You can compare their relationship to that of Travis Kelce and his mother, Donna, but Joshua also appears as a little boy of a mom. I like Niles, but I would have preferred a romantic interest in Joshua (her Taylor Swift), but she (Simone Ashley) was left on the floor of the cut room.
The out -of -competition person in distribution is the actress nominated at Oscars Kerry Condon (“Les Banshees d’Inisherin”) playing Kate McKenna, the technical director of APXGP who designed Formula 1 car from the team. I wouldn’t call exactly the interest of his love for his Sonny, but there is flirting, perhaps more. Condon is thrown against type, which is why she is excellent in the role. The Irish actress takes the spotlight in a room filled with Pitt, Idris and Bardem.
The collaborator and director of the frequent photography of Kosinski Claudio Miranda, who started as a gaff in David Fincher on films like “Seven” and “Fight Club”, and won an Oscar for his work on “Life of Pi” of 2012, should receive another appointment for his superb visuals in “F1: the film”, which present wide air shots and a first -year point of view at first sight, By creating a completely immersive experience. Optimized for IMAX, Miranda used the Sony Rialto camera extension system to place the public inside the “Top Gun: Maverick” fighter planes. A prototype was used in “F1” to position the spectator inside Formula 1 cars, which leads to incredible plans.
The racing sequences are exhilarating and Formula 1 fans are treated with tons of cameos by drivers who include Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen and Lando Norris. However, do not be mistaken, “F1: The Movie”, with all its exciting action, remains a film focused on the characters. Unfortunately, the accent is put on a single character, Sonny Hayes.
These beautiful aerodynamic machines are not up to the childish charm of Brad Pitt. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer tightens every penny on the salary of $ 30 million in pitt. The film begins with a mentality “there is no” I “, but there are two in victory”. He would have benefited from a stronger rivalry between Sonny and Joshua; Instead, he becomes Sappy.
We are also in familiar territory, because many similar themes have been explored in the NASCAR version of this film, “Days of Thunder” by Tony Scott (1990), with Tom Cruise. The actor “Top Gun” was 28 years old when he played Reckless Cole Trickle in the racing car film, while his rival, played by Michael Roboker, was 35 years old. This closer age disparity for the veteran works better in a film like this. Side note: Add the character of Cruise to the Folk-Rock Supergroup that I presented earlier (maybe like Neil Young). By making the stand, the Hayes, the sailors and the rotation.
“F1: The film” is an entertaining pitt stop intended to stimulate the surface level.
