Hey, I’m back with another food critic – this time, it’s Chew Chew Bun.
I went there a few weeks ago and ordered a bun at Melon cranberry, and it was absolutely delicious. It was love at the first bite. A solid 10 out of 10. I thought: “Oh, why not go back and try all their buns and review everyone?”
It was a bit unrealistic because they have too many buns to choose – and I try to lose weight for a summer body, so I can’t stop every day – but I did my best.
I recommend that you go early in the morning or in the afternoon, because Chew Chew Bun is only doing pastries once a day, so the flavored buns sell quickly. Here is my review of the last two weeks of visit to Chew Chew Bun.
Tiramisu pistachio
I loved the texture – the pistachio added a beautiful crunch. Not too sweet, just the right amount for me, and the flavor was on the point.

Curry pork bun
He looked cute with the little rabbit on the front, so I bought it – but don’t be fooled. Not as cute as it has a taste. My taste buds were confused. It was heavy on the spices, and I expected more than one pork flavor.
Maybe I’m not a curry person. In addition, it was a bit dry inside, probably because of the curry. I’m sorry – I feel like I drag this poor bun too hard. Each bread deserves love.

A Thai dirty latte is on a table in Chew Chew Bun on Tuesday April 8, 2025 in State College, Pennsylvania.
Latte Thai Dirty
I’m not going to lie, I ordered that because the name seemed funny.
It was a little too sweet for me – but the sweetness is customizable, and the worker was super nice about it. Made with Thai tea and espresso, I just want the flavor of Thai tea to be stronger. However, it was freezing and satisfactory.

Matcha pink bay
Well if you want something sweet, but not too much.
Made with raspberries, strawberry and organic matcha, the part of the bread was a bit dry – perhaps because I had it around 3:40 p.m., and the pastry was sitting outside for a few hours (Chew Bun opened from 7:30 am).
Not bad, but not my favorite. I prefer more creamy and smoother rolls.

A classic red bean bun is located on a table in Chew Chew Bun on Thursday, April 10, 2025 in State College, Pennsylvania.
Classic red bean bun
I was surprised to have bought it because I am not a fan of Red Bean, but I can make an exception for this bun. It was delicious.
Chewy, with the perfect level of sweetness. A simple classic – everyone must try this. I think it’s the perfect bread for beginners, especially if you are super undecided like me.

Frank cheese
It was the only salty bun that I bought, and it was delicious.
The workers warmed it and the soft bread melted in my mouth. The hot dog inside gave it a nice contrast. I just want the Hot-Dog to be a little better glued to the pastry.
A choice of tasty solid and cheesy.

A lemon cream bun is on a table in Chew Chew Bun on Tuesday April 15, 2025 at State College, Pennsylvania.
Lemon custard
Chewy outside with a creamy lemon cream inside – the chef’s kiss.
Texture similar to the red bean bun, but with a touch of citrus. I also tried to bite the lemon piece on top of the bun but it was difficult.
Was it edible? I don’t know, but I will certainly buy this flavor.

An oats of the brown sugar oats is on a table in Chew Chew Bun on Tuesday April 15, 2025 in State College, Pennsylvania.
Oat latte at brown sugar
This drink is classified as a “bestseller” on the menu, and after having a sip, I understand why it is popular.
There was a nice foam on the top, with an espresso and a touch of caramel. He had a bit like a caramel macchiato, but less syrupy and sweet.

A nutella cheese bun is on a table in Chew Chew Bun on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at State College, Pennsylvania.
Nutella cheese
It was surprisingly really good.
With bread and nutella and growing style cheese inside, I did not know if nutella and cheese would be a tasty combination.
But I was surprised that the flavors worked well together. It’s super generous, but a little too sweet for me (Duh, it’s Nutella). Get this one if you are a big Nutella fan.

My best favorites / recommendations
Lemon cuckoo and classic red bean bun – incredible taste and great value.
I firmly believe that if you go Chew Chew Bun, you have to buy one of their buns – not a drink.
Yes, I judge customers who buy only slats there.
In addition, I currently have 85 points, so the next time I go, I am rewarded with a bun and a free cookie!
