Report: Warriors most likely to have ‘substantial’ trade talks with Butler originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area

The Warriors are in the middle of finalize deal for Brooklyn Nets point guard Dennis Schröderbut could Golden State be ready to make another deal before the February 6 NBA trade deadline?

All-NBA Miami Heat wing Jimmy Butler has been linked to the Warriors in recent weeks, and Golden State appears to be at the forefront of teams vying to add the 35-year-old star.

The Warriors are the only team among the four heavily linked to Butler that maintains interest that could potentially lead to “substantial trade talks.” NBA insiders Marc Stein and Jake Fischer reported this on Saturday.

The Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks – two teams linked to Butler – have reportedly not shown any tangible interest in the Heat superstar.

The Phoenix Suns, another potential landing spot for Butler, are realistically expected to include winger Bradley Beal in any deal with Miami, which could cause problems after the Heat hesitated to add the NBA All-Star for the 2023 offseason.

Golden State would be among Butler’s three favorite shopping destinations should he be dealt by Miami.

Butler is posting his worst scoring performance in five years, averaging 18.6 points in 31.9 minutes per game during the 2024-25 NBA season.

However, the veteran star is shooting a very efficient 55 percent from the field and remains one of the most respected players in the league despite his age.

Given the Warriors’ late-game scoring woes this season, adding Butler could be an attractive option as Golden State looks to maximize the remaining years of Steph Curry’s career.
