Jeffrey Surtel was 17 years old when he disappeared on April 29, 2007.

It has now been confirmed that the human leftovers that were washed in Washington in August 2008 were a surlctions.

Mission, BC, GRC said that when the surl family had pointed out to him disappeared in 2007, they thought he had left the house on his bicycle while they were sleeping at night, which was out of character for him.

A huge research effort was launched for surlctions but has never been found.

In August 2008, human remains were washed on the ground on the Washington State Olympic Peninsula. The Sheriff’s Bureau of the County Clalamie investigated the question and carried out a DNA analysis of the remains, by comparing it with DNA samples in several American databases, but no correspondence was found.

“There is no file to officially crossing the American border at any time,” said CPL. Harrison Mohr, with Mission, said on Tuesday at a press conference.

“Whether or not he entered the Fraser river on a mission, whether or not his body finds himself, by other means, in the ocean, we are not sure.”

Sixteen years later, the Sheriff’s Bureau of the County of Clalam financed the donations and at the beginning of 2025, it was able to send DNA for tests in a private laboratory in Texas which used progress in the medical-legal genetic genealogy to connect DNA to a member of the extended family.

“Our hearts go to Jeffrey’s family and friends, while they learn this news,” Inspire. Ted Lewko, officer responsible for the Mission GRC detachment, said in a statement.

“We hope that this update helps to close them which has surely been unimaginable eighteen years to wonder what happened. Our sincere thanks to the Sheriff’s Bureau of the County of Clalam for their perseverance in finding answers and in the laboratory which could help to link DNA to the family of Jeffrey. Your efforts made a real difference for those who knew and loved Jeffrey. »»

Thanks to the RCMP, the Surprise family said they would like to thank all those who have supported them over the years.

“Special mention to classmates and Jeff teachers at Hatzic high school who searched the Fraser River Heritage Park,” said the family.

“In addition, our thanks to the dozens of people who presented themselves for research on the mission area.”

Investigators on both sides of the border confirm that there is no indication of crime, although the circumstances surrounding the disappearance and the death of the surlctions remain unknown.
