New York (WCAX)-Will a case involving transgender athletes from Vermont become the new face of cultural war in the United States? A Christian school in the Upper Valley prevented from participating in Metra state sports leagues on Wednesday before the federal courts.
The Mid-Vermont Christian School, a small private religious school in White River Junction, withdrew its basketball team for high school girls from a eliminatory match in 2023 because a transgender student played in the opposing team. The school argued that playing against “biological men” compromising equity and security for the girls of their team.
However, the Association of Directors of Vermont judged that the school had violated its discrimination policies and prevented them from participating in future activities.
School has has lost its previous arguments before the Court of State and FederalBut Tuesday will call on the case to the second American circuit in New York, arguing that the state had violated the rights of the school’s first amendment. If the ban is confirmed again, the case could go to the Supreme Court of the United States.
This occurs when the Trump administration has focused on trans athletes participating in sport, including in Maine, Where the president promised to draw all the federal funding from public schools.
