Cleveland, Ohio – For the fourth time in the history of the school, the Athletics Department of the University of Miami ended at the top of the Reese and Jacoby All-Sport ranking. It’s 26th Time Miami captured the Reese Trophy (Top Men’s Athletic Program), and this is the seventh victory of the Jacoby Trophy (Top Women’s Athletic Program).
“I continue to be impressed by our formidable ATHLETES and everything they do here at the University of Miami,” said the director of athletics David Sayler. “Win awards like this show the incredible success they have in their respective sports, but they are also graduated at extremely high levels and do so in class too – we are really diploma champions here in Miami. The fact has such a positive result.
In all, Miami won a school record 10 football, baseball (X2), male swimming championships (Missouri Valley conference), grass hockey (X2), softball (X2) and tennis. Miami’s synchronized skating team added a college national championship for the 23rdRD time in the history of the program as well.
“It was an incredible year for the athletics of the University of Miami,” added the president of the University of Miami, Greg Crawford. “We are extremely proud of our student-athletes’ accomplishing, not only in their respective Sports but also in the classroom and throughout Our Communities. The success, leadership, and overall excellence they demonstrate serves as an inspiration to all. To all. Year is a tremendous Honor that highlights The Exceptional Culture Built Among Our Athletic Programs from our Student-Athletes, Coaches, Administrators, Alumni, Donors and Les Fans.
For the two trophies, points are assigned according to the end of each school, the total total divided by the number of sports sponsored by each school. The women’s trophy is named after the former commissioner Mac Fred Jacoby. Jacoby was Commissioner Mac from 1971 to 1982 and was recognized for incorporating female athletics into the structure of the conference. The male trophy is appointed for the former commissioner Mac David E. Reese. Reese was the very first Mac commissioner and served the conference since its creation in 1946 until 1964.
