View of meadowsTexas (April 7, 2025) – Prairie View A&M University College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (Cafnr) introduced a new Master of Science in Nutrition (MS NUTR) Program designed to prepare for the next generation of nutritional leaders. Launched this semester, the program offers students advanced knowledge in nutritional sciences and public health, by allowing them to meet critical health challenges in communities around the world.
With a strong research focus, practices based on evidence and the application of the real world, the MS NUTR program provides students with the tools to improve health results, influence food security. Thanks to the mentorship of expert teachers and practical learning experiences, graduates will be well prepared to lead in a variety of sectors, including health care, education and the public service.
A multidisciplinary approach
The MS Nutr program adopts a global approach to nutritional education, preparing students to work in various fields. Graduates will be equipped to serve in federal, state and local agencies, as well as in private and public sectors where nutrition expertise is in great demand.
The students of the program will be:
- Deepen their understanding of the science of nutrition;
- Recognize how nutrition has an impact on overall health and well-being;
- Promote healthier individuals and families throughout the life cycle; And
- Respect the requirements of graduates to take the registration exam for registered dietitian nutritionists (DRN).
Flexible diploma options
The program offers several avenues to adapt to student career objectives:
- Thesis track – 30 hours of semeral credit, including six (6) hours of research credit
- Non Theis track – 36 hours of semester credit, including a six -rate stone project (6) hours of credit
- MS RD TRACK – 30 hours of credit -semester, incorporating internship / internship experiences for registered dietitians (RDS)
Students benefit from individual mentoring with experienced teachers and have the opportunity to engage in practical research projects that fall under nutritional challenges in the real world. The program can be completed in as little as 18 months (three academic semesters), making it an effective path for those who seek to advance their career in nutrition and dietetics.

Commitment to community and global impact
Beyond advanced nutritional education, the program integrates community health initiatives, ensuring that students are well prepared to solve urgent problems such as malnutrition, food regimes and food security in various populations.
In recognition of the national nutrition month in March, students of the MS NUTR program led the campus level initiatives, including nutrition education workshops, kitchen demonstrations and meal planning sessions, strengthening the program on actual application.
