It’s a way to play guitar like no other. Don Alder’s Percussive Fingerstyle has earned him international recognition, winning several major competitions on some of the best in the world.
“All these guys around me know much more music. They are much more virtuoso than I could never be. Why do I win? ” asked Alder.
“This is something that comes out of here and it took me a while to realize that I was pushing my heart.”

It is a successful career inspired by a slogan: making music in the key to social responsibility. Alder has always used his talents to restore.
“I was involved in the Vancouver Adaptive Music Society. Right now, I’m involved in Empower by music which is an excellent program that we have in Vancouver, “said Alder.

His trip started at Williams Lake, where he met Rick Hansen in the high school basketball team, later making a fateful fishing trip when the two friends were thrown at the back of a van.
“The truck turned around, I was on the upper side, so the truck was driving after me, Rick fell directly down,” said Alder. “I was able to move away from this accident and Rick of course had a broken back.”
Later, joining the tour of the world in motion, Alder became Hansen’s equipment technology, learning a new competence that would lead to even greater things.

“After the tour, I became a multitude of knowledge of the wheelchairs that involved me in wheelchair sports,” said Alder.
He would lend his expertise to Canadian’s paralympic teams in 1996 and 2000.
“For the whole team, but mainly focusing on the rugby team because they are the ones who needed help with their chairs,” said Alder.
Of all distinctions mean more than others.
“I obtained the Grand Laureat Award of 2013, which is specifically to make change in communities,” said Alder.
Being a positive influence is much more worth for this guitar hero.
“By dragging with Rick and being part of the tour, it has become a part of my personality,” said Alder.
“It’s just part of my nature now to make changes, and I don’t know how to do it by myself. But if someone opens the door, I can certainly offer something. ”
