Manufacturing in general continues to evolve towards automation and intelligent technologies. Thus, the Purdue University in Indianapolis is preparing students to direct the transformation with the launch of an engineering technology program into robotics.

This program, managed by Purdue Polytechnic, is designed to provide students with interdisciplinary knowledge and applied skills necessary at the end of Indianapolis from the state -lasting technology corridor and in the high -tech manufacturing economy.

Robotics Engineering Technology in Indianapolis will take advantage of the success found in its parent department, the School of Engineering Technology (SOET). SOET has a long -standing tradition of mixing the mechanical, electric, computer and mechatronics engineering program designed to give robotics students an ability in all the necessary systems necessary in the field.

Students will learn the characteristic practical approach to Purdue Polytechnic, giving them the possibility of designing, implementing and refining advanced robotic systems. While industries are increasingly turning to robotics to improve safety, efficiency and productivity, the program of actual studies of the program positions graduates to meet the moment.

“Robotics students will be ready to design the intelligent manufacturing floor of today and tomorrow,” said Robert Weissbach, professor of engineering technology and robotics program in Indianapolis. “Engineers need more than mathematics and fundamental sciences. They must be problems of problems that can integrate different technologies to create the best systems. ”

The students of the program complete a study plan that includes:

  • Four robotics courses as part of the manufacturing engineering technology program (MFET)

  • Four mechanical engineering technology lessons (MET)

  • Three lessons in electrical and computer engineering technology (ECET)

  • Two programming lessons

  • Three math lessons, including statistics and calculation

  • A senior capstone project sequence

  • A concentration area adapted to the interests of students

  • Four written and oral communication courses

The structure guarantees that students obtain their diploma with the depth and extent of the expertise. In addition to their technical training, students are developing skills in communication and essential collaboration to work in teams and industries.

The experience of Senior Capstone for Robotic Engineering Technology will be a two -course sequence linked to the projects sponsored by industry. Students will be able to tackle real problems in high -tech industries and demonstrate the preparation to direct or support complex automation efforts in the workplace.

“The engineering technology school continues to grow. The Purdue University in Indianapolis is now a reality, our colleagues joining the SOET family in West Lafayette and our locations on a state scale, “said Ken Burbank, head of the engineering technology school.

Soet is currently focusing on the integration of robotic systems with Smart Manufacturing, and the robotics program in Indianapolis will have the spearhead of this effort since the very beginning of the majority’s implementation.

Indianapolis teachers have developed the robotics program in response to national workforce trends, which show that intelligent manufacturing processes are “the most important element of modern industrial work”.

“The” intelligent “processes lead the way we do things, and robotics is invaluable in this dynamic,” said Weissbach. “Intelligent manufacturing is and will continue to be, how to control and optimize how things are done.”

The practical applications of the study program, combined with direct contacts between students and industry experts, regional employers and beyond, comply with the wider mission of Purdue Polytechnic to train students to be ready to be industrial on the first day of their careers.

About the engineering technology school
The School of Engineering Technology of the Polytechnic Institute of Purdue University mixes the practice of engineering applied to practical learning to prepare graduates for technical leadership in a wide range of industries. With programs covering electricity and computer engineering technology, mechanical engineering technology, industrial engineering and robotics technology, the school emphasizes real problem solving, industry collaboration and skills practiced by career.

About Purdue University in Indianapolis
