West Lafayette, ind. – The Polytechnic Institute of the Purdue University has proudly recognized David Byers of Franklin, Indiana, with a distinguished technology alumni Award during the annual ceremony of Purdue and Elders technology technology. Byers, a graduate of 1985 of the Professional Piludue Pilot Technology Program, was honored for its remarkable aviation career and its lasting contributions to the field.
Byers, currently captain of United Airlines, steals the Boeing 787 Dreamliner on international roads, covering destinations around the world. With more than 27,000 hours of flight and 40 years in the air transport industry, David remains as passionate about the flight today as when he took off for the first time from the Purdue flight line.
“Purdue played a decisive role in helping me achieve my career goal to get my first air job,” said Byers. “I owe a large part of my success to education and the experiences that I had as a student in the Professional Pilot Technology program.”
Beyond the cockpit, Byers serves as a quality control control plane for United Airlines, where he plays a key role in mentoring, training and evaluation of pilots and other control aviators on the Boeing 787. His dedication to excellence in terms of aeronautical safety and training has had a lasting impact on the next generation of aviators.
Back in Franklin, David is also a director at Franklin College, contributing to his leadership and information to his local community. Whether attending Purdue football matches, skiing in the Alps or the creation of memories with friends around the world, Byers embodies the adventurous spirit and the lifelong learning ethics of a boilermaker.
The distinguished technology alumni Award recognizes the former exceptional polytechnics that have demonstrated achievements, leadership and professional services to their community and Alma Mater. David Byers illustrates these qualities in many aspects of his life and his career.
