PULASKI, Va. (WDBJ) – Pulaski County has officially named Tim Miller as the first director of the new Office of Sports Tourism and Entertainment.
The goal of this office is to revitalize Pulaski County’s sports and tourism scene.
Tim Miller has spent years in the sports tourism and entertainment business, developing sports infrastructure. After touring the Pulaski facility, he says the area really stands out.
“I immediately saw the potential, and I kind of built part of my career on building new organizations and turning things around from the ground up,” Miller said. “And so that immediately appealed to me.”
From ATV parks to the famous Calfee Park, Miller plans to use all venues to attract the best entertainment.
“Yeah, I mean, when you look, you know, Calfee Park is one of the oldest active baseball stadiums in the country,” he said. “There’s an opportunity to build on that, you know, whether it’s youth tournaments or, you know, college games or high school games.”
The goal is to provide an environment conducive to the growth of sports and entertainment as well as the economic growth of Pulaski.
“And the critical mass that results creates new opportunities that we’ve never had to invest in new restaurants and new hotels and new entertainment businesses and tourism-related businesses,” said Administrator Jonathan Sweet of Pulaski County.
There are many outdoor venues in Pulaski County, but Tim says the goal now is to move toward indoor recreation.
