Watch: Kailey Pearson podiums at the Chsaa Athletics State Finals

Kailey Pearson, Kailey Pearson, of the Charter Academy, follows in the footsteps of his sister by winning the gold in long jump and silver in the height jump of the CHSAA athletics championships at the Jeffco Stadium on May 17, 2025.

  • The national championships of the NCAA Division II are among the sporting events bringing visitors to Pueblo in May.
  • More than 1,000 athletes and their families will be in Pueblo to compete on May 19 to 24.
  • The economic impact of sports tourism is expected to reach $ 3 million this month while visitors remain in Pueblo hotels, stores in local businesses and will dine in Steel City restaurants.

Four major sporting events of collegiate track In High School Girls, the golf course brings more than 1,000 athletes and their families to Pueblo this month, filling hotels and providing an economic impact estimated at $ 3 million on the community.

This week’s events started on May 19 to 20 with 84 of the best Golfers of the girls in Colorado for the class 2A championships at the Pueblo Country Club.

“The Country Club car park has been packed today because there is such attendance by spectators,” said Cara Siegel, community coordinator and commitment to the Grand Pueblo Chamber of Commerce on May 19.

While the week takes place, 800 athletics collegial competitors will converge the Colorado State University Pueblo for the National National Championship of the National Collegiate Athletic Association II from May 22 to 24. This event alone should bring 2,500 spectators to the tribunes to the Thunderbowl.

“This installation is magnificent and it’s always fun to show it,” said Siegel. “This is the second time that Pueblo has organized – 2023 was the last time and we are super excited to have this competition in Pueblo.”

200 other athletes will be up to the Runyon sports complex for the 2A Division 2A baseball championships. Eight teams will compete from May 23 to 24 and the best four teams will return from May 30 to 31 for the final.

“It was at the top of the Baseball Tournament in Region 9 of the Junior College which brought eight teams, with a list of 35 per team, in Pueblo for four days earlier this month. May was a crazy month for sporting events,” said Siegel.

“Because Rye was the only local team of the women’s high school golf championships, most of these visitors report tourist dollars. We believe that 6,500 rooms will be reserved in Pueblo this week,” said Siegel.

“Each hotel room in Pueblo is reserved for a week and we share love because some of these visitors stay in hotels at the southern end of Colorado Springs,” she said.

“We are delighted to show our pueblo hospitality to all these owners,” she said.

Why is sports tourism so important for Pueblo

In May 2023, the Pueblo Chamber and Pueblo’s visit launched a sports tourist division in order to bring another type of tourism to the city. The effort is to tender to have a chance to welcome a wide variety of sporting events.

“We are trying to raise it and open the way to Pueblo to become a sports tourist destination. Sports facilities here are absolutely incredible and they facilitate the task – we are very lucky,” said Siegel.

Tickets for outdoor athletics events in NCAA Division II are available daily for $ 15 for adults or $ 10 for students and the elderly, or an adoption in complete session costs $ 35 for adults or $ 20 for students and the elderly. Tickets can be purchased online at gothunderwolves.com.
