The provider of renewable communications and energy solutions, Prospecta Utilities, works with CIENA to offer 5G private connectivity to Gemlife Gold Coast, a life station over 50 in Australia.
Taking away from routers 5130 and 5164 Xhaul of Ciena, deployment allows the smart house, seamless homologous connectivity and an improvement in operational efficiency, establishing the stage of the interconnected life of the “smart city”. The compact support for compact routers of Ciena temperature is perfectly suited to the difficult climate and terrain of Australia, offering reliable and low latency performance even through cyclones and thermal waves.
With plans to extend this infrastructure in 30 stations by 2028, Prospecta’s 5G initiative shows how new generation connectivity can raise residents’ experience while modernizing operations.
As a 5G private use case, evidence of concepts and monetization possibilities gain field on a global scale, the Australian market is ready for rapid growth, projections indicating an increase of 47.3% from 2024 to 2030, reaching USD 504.2 million, according to Grand View Research. The supplier of communications and renewable energy solutions Prospecta Utilities (Prospecta), for example, makes significant progress in the delivery of 5G to closed communities.
Prospecta started by installing a fixed wireless network with autonomous waves 5G at the Gemlife Gold Coast over Lifestyle Resort from the 1950s, preparing the ground to increase connectivity. Residents of Gemlife Gold Coast have uninterrupted connectivity, transparently connecting their smart devices – including household appliances – to the network. Life stations are also able to take advantage of 5G to improve operational efficiency and offer a high experience of life.
Open and reliable path to the success of 5G
The prospecta 5G fixed wireless network system is made possible by bringing together the latest technologies from different suppliers, including 5130 and 5164 routers as skeleton. The open and programmable Xhaul routers of Ciena act as a bridge, data routing between connected devices and the 5G network, creating the basics of an agile and seamless 5G experience.
Ciena compact routers are hardened in temperature and right to allow flexible and simple deployments for locations fascinated by temperature or limited in space. This is perfect for traditionally difficult terrain in Australia and the variable climate.
Prospecta plans to extend these “intelligent cities” interconnected in the portfolio of 30 Gemlife complexes at the end of 2028.

Using Gemlife lifestyle stations as an example, we plan to give life to private “smart cities” through Australia – and potentially to other markets. We needed an agile and seamless 5g solution. The Ciena routers support our requirements from the Xhaul platform, providing network scalability as needed and offering advanced calendar and synchronization. It was important for us that the routers we have chosen could provide transparent integration into a multi-candlestick ecosystem, because we work with a variety of suppliers for our 5G needs. In addition, CIENA routers support our requirements for fraction of open radio access networks (Ran), and constitutes a profitable alternative to the traditional Firm RAN, allowing more deployment models. Since its remote deployment, our Ciena routers have resisted a range of time and extreme events – from a cyclone to a heat wave. Thanks to all this, they continued to operate reliably, by supporting our requirements of the Xhaul platform with a low latency and a minimum jig
