PROCTORVILLE, OHIO (WSAZ) – Inspections are complete on the 31st Street Bridge that connects Huntington to Proctorville.
This caused significant traffic delays for more than a month.
Also known as the East Huntington Bridge, the structure has received inspections and some minor repairs.
Willie Ward, the owner of Ward’s Service Center, said it has had a negative impact on his business.
“Having the pieces here has had a major impact,” Ward said. “So it slows down my business and makes it a little harder for my customers to get their cars back.”
Since the bridge opened, he has already noticed a difference in his supply.
“What I’ve noticed is that my parts and my delivery times have been much better,” he said. “So, that being said, it helped my business, so that was good.”
Proctorville Mayor Bill Elliott said he hopes things in the community can return to normal.
“I’m sure I speak for the community: Everyone is very happy and we can get back to our lives,” Elliott said. “We hope that businesses in our community can get back to business and recover what they lost because of this bridge closure.”
Now that the inspection is complete, the roadworks signs have been removed and traffic is flowing freely.
Elliott said the community is grateful to the inspectors who kept the bridge safe.
