In the world to the rapid rhythm today, lifestyle diseases have become an increasing concern. Conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease and obesity are more and more widespread, largely due to unhealthy habits and sedentary routines. Unlike infectious diseases, lifestyle diseases are developing over time and are often avoidable thanks to conscious choices and proactive health management.

Understanding lifestyle and performance medicine

While lifestyle medicine focuses on the prevention and management of diseases by behavioral changes, performance medicine goes further. It is an emerging field that optimizes human health and function beyond the prevention of diseases – improving physical and cognitive performance for individuals ranging from elite athletes to professionals in search of maximum productivity.

Performance medicine incorporates the physiology of exercise, metabolic health, nutrition science and recovery strategies to help individuals achieve their best possible health results. It is not only a question of avoiding the disease, but of maximizing human potential through scientific interventions.

The growing burden of chronic diseases:

Chronic diseases, also known as non -transmitted diseases (MNT), represent 73% of all deaths worldwide. In India, MNTs contribute to 53% of all deaths and 44% of years of life adjusted in terms of lost disability. The country has experienced a rapid epidemiological transition, from diseases transmitted to conditions related to lifestyle due to urbanization and socio-economic changes.

According to recent reports, the proportion of deaths due to MNT in India increased from 37.9% in 1990 to 61.8% in 2016. The four main contributors to this burden are cardiovascular disease (CVD), cancers, chronic respiratory diseases (CRDS) and diabetes.

A national health screening study revealed alarming trends:

  • 65% of the individuals detected were suffering from a fatty liver disease, 85% of cases not being alcoholic.
  • 46% of asymptomatic individuals have shown silent cardiac risks, indicating unmatched cardiovascular conditions.
  • Among post-menopausal women, the prevalence of diabetes increased from 14% to 40%, while obesity increased from 76% to 86%.
  • 28% of students were overweight or obese and 19% were pre-hypertensive.
  • 77% of women and 82% of men showed vitamin D deficiency, highlighting generalized nutritional gaps.
  • Prevention, management and inversion of chronic diseases

The good news is that the lifestyle and performance medicine offer effective strategies to prevent, manage and even reverse chronic diseases while improving overall well-being. Here are some key approaches:

1. Early identification of risk factors
The detection of chronic diseases at an early stage is crucial for effective management. Regular tests of blood pressure, cholesterol levels, glucose metabolism and inflammatory markers can help identify individuals at risk before the appearance of symptoms.

2. Nutrition optimized for the reversal of diseases
A well -balanced diet is not only essential for disease prevention, but also plays a role in the inversion of metabolic disorders. Research has shown that targeted nutritional interventions can improve insulin sensitivity, reduce inflammation and support cell repair.

3. Science of precision exercise
Beyond general physical condition, performance medicine focuses on tailor-made exercise programs that help individuals recover from chronic conditions. Studies in the main performance research laboratories have explored how the metabolism of the exercise can be optimized for the reversal of diseases.

4. Health and metabolic recovery
Understanding metabolic diseases is the key to improving long -term health results. The progress of the epidemiology of chronic diseases and precision health care continues to shape our understanding of nutritional interventions and metabolic risk factors, improving long -term health thanks to personalized approaches.

The future of health optimization

As consciousness develops, individuals must take charge of their health by making informed choices. The medicine of yield is about to revolutionize health care by paying attention to the management of diseases at the cutting edge of human function. With research ideas and clinical expertise, healthcare professionals and institutions include advanced metabolic research on practical applications that improve human performance, “explains Dr. Soumik Kalita, whose 25 -year engagement in chronic disease prevention, management and inversion has shaped innovative health models.

As an associate professor of epidemiology of chronic diseases at the London School in hygiene and tropical medicine, his work has contributed to revolutionary research in metabolic dysfunction, his work on the optimization of human performance in the context of collaborations with the human performance laboratory in the United Kingdom has helped to create new borders in research on human performance.

His in -depth research in sporting physiology and the prevention of chronic diseases has contributed to filling the gap between traditional health care and the advanced sciences of performance, ensuring that early identification of risk factors and proactive interventions remains at the heart of modern medicine.

Dr. Kalita is also a member of the International Society of Epidemiology and the Prevention of Cardiovascular Diseases and is certified by the World Obesity Federation. He specializes in chronic diseases, lifestyle diseases and family medicine and has launched high -end centers for performance medicine in Gurugram and Bengaluru.

Dr. Soumik Kalita says “that by adopting a proactive approach to the optimization of health and the inversion of chronic diseases, we can collectively reduce the burden on lifestyle and open the way to a healthier and more efficient society”.
