This is the first day of Ben to Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen Through Edmonton, to celebrate a little boy who gathered the city both in joy and in grief.
“The idea of making Ben’s day something for the whole community is really cool,” said Mike Stelter, the father of Ben Stelter: A fan passionate about Edmonton’s Oilers whose battle against brain cancer and how the team supported the community.
The idea of Ben’s day was born after the parents Mike and Lea Stelter met Kyle Ferbey about a year ago.
Ferbey is with the franchise group which has all the fast food restaurants in Popeyes in Edmonton and in northern Alberta – and he quickly learned that Ben was a big fan of their fried and southern chicken.
“I discovered that Ben’s favorite meal came from Popeyes,” said Ferbey.
“Whenever he left the hospital or his birthday, he always asked for Popeyes.”
Ben’s favorite meal was spicy chicken, cheese macaroni and cajun fries.

Ferbey knew he had to do something special to honor Ben; So, from now on May 27 will be Ben in Popeyes.

“Having the opportunity to do something for the community I know will make a big difference in our city – it’s something I feel so good and that I love to be part,” said Ferbey.
The net product of stores participating in Edmonton and north of Alberta will go to the Ben Stelter Foundation.
“Edmonton is a community like no other,” said Mike.
“The way they gathered around Ben, our family and the foundation are incredible and we were able to help so many children like Ben – what he wanted so badly.”
Ben was a big fan of the oilers. The team, and all of Edmonton, kissed him thanks to his fight against cancer.

The team saw the six -year -old child who died of an aggressive glioblastoma Brain cancer in August 2022, like its bright light and good luck.
A big fan of the oilers, Ben’s dream was to meet Connor McDavid. Dressed in a jersey of the Oilers and McDavid, this dream came true when Ben patinated to center ice with his hero for hymns.

The team was committed before the start of the 2021-22 season to which they would play Bamba After each victory in Rogers placed in honor of the long -standing assistant of the locker room Joey Moss.
Ben became known for having told the team to “play BambaBaby! “And became a familiar name to Edmonton and beyond.
To date, the folk-mexican song is still echoing in Rogers place when the team wins a match.
Tuesday, May 27, 2025 would have been his 9th anniversary.
“The overwhelming support of the community, the messages we have received today before making a single post – people who try to say” think about you today “and wish a happy birthday to Ben is so special,” said Mike.
