In France The National Assembly rejected the centrist government led by Michel Barnier, appointed prime minister by Emmanuel Macron, the president, in September following inconclusive legislative elections in July. Marine Le Pen’s far-right National Rally joined forces with left-wing parties to oust Mr Barnier after he forced his budget through Parliament without a vote. The last time the Assembly rejected a government was in 1962.
