Officer injured outside sports complex
PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — A Philadelphia police officer was injured after being struck by a vehicle at the South Philadelphia Sports Complex Sunday evening.
It happened just before 6 p.m. at 1000 Pattison Avenue, in the area between Lincoln Financial Field and Citizens Bank Park, shortly before Eagles fans left the Linc after Sunday’s playoff game.
The officer was on scene at a traffic checkpoint when the crash occurred, police said.
Pennsylvania State Police were attempting to stop the vehicle for a traffic violation when authorities said the driver reversed and struck the Philadelphia police officer’s car.
The injured officer was taken to hospital, where he is expected to be treated and released.
The driver of the colliding vehicle was taken into custody on suspicion of drunk driving.
