Member of the Municipal Council of Philadelphia Jamie GauthierWho represents the west and southwest of Philadelphia, including University City, described the Trump administration cuts a direct threat to its voters.
“By threatening the financing of the NIH, a president who ran on the reduction in costs for families threatens to make life more expensive for all of us by turning off the economic engine of Philadelphia,” she said. “The tens of thousands of jobs at stake are not only intended for educated scientists, but also for Philadelphians of all areas of life: people who keep lights on, small businesses and schools around our research establishments – the training effects will affect each corner of our city.”
IT biologist Lindsay Guare said she prefers to do her research only to speak during this gathering.
“I work like four or five different projects for which I will end up writing articles. I prefer to do science because that’s what I like to do, “said Guare. “So that the situation is so disastrous that people and scientists leave their office, leave their laboratory bench and meet to demand attention – that said something.”
