Gayle King got a huge birthday surprise on Saturday, thanks to her best friend Oprah Winfrey.
King, who turns 70 later this month, thought she was attending a Christmas party for one of Winfrey’s companies, but she was surprised at New York’s Ci Siamo restaurant, according to pictures posted on his Instagram page.
The “CBS Mornings” anchor threw her hand on the bar and gasped as her family and friends yelled “surprise!” » as soon as he enters.
The party guest list included: Katy Perry, Stephen Colbert, Angela Bassett, Jeff Bezos, Brooke Shields, Andy Cohen and others.
In a heartfelt speech, Winfrey marked King’s birthday and another milestone they will soon share together.
“Next year will mark half a century that we have been friends,” Winfrey said, according to a extract from his speech. “For 50 years, we have been in sync, in each other’s corners, supporting each other, looking forward to the best that can happen to each other.”
The media mogul went on to describe King as “the one person in my life who has always been happier about everything that happened to me” and said that “the world is a better place because of the joy that Gayle brings to everyone world”.
King was entitled to a four tier birthday cake with sparklers and DJ Suss One served as the evening’s entertainer.
“I can’t believe you pulled that off; I can’t believe you came for me,” King said his guests during a speech. “I’m just blown away by the people who took their time just to come…I’m so grateful.” Thank you very, very much. I really feel love.
