Liam Fetus, Vice-President of Openai’s research for post-training, leaves the company to found a startup in materials science.
Information initially reported Fetus’s plans. In a Declaration on XFetus confirmed the report and added some additional details.
“My first cycle was in physics and I can’t wait to apply this technology there,” said Fedus in the press release. “Because AI for science is one of the most important areas strategically to open and achieve (artificial superintendent), Openai plans to invest and associate with my new business.”
The company of Fetus will compete with Google Deepmind, Microsoft and others in the science space of emerging materials. In 2023, Deepmind said that his AI system, gnome, Found crystals that could be used to make new materials. More recently, Microsoft has unveiled a pair of AI tools which disseminates materials called Mattergen and Mattersim.
Some experts are skeptical However, today’s AI is capable of really new scientific discoveries.
